I am so very honored to have become a member of Dr. Bob Chen’s first Physical Rehabilitation Elite Training Course. After the screening, only 16 students in the country have been selected, and they are in for six months of full-time intensive training.
I have long heard about Dr. Chen’s expertise in this field, but today I learned a lot more about him. Dr. Chen is also a great mentor on how to learn and to be a good person. In today’s class, Dr. Chen spent quite a lot of time showing us some of the principles and methods of learning and handling things in life, which benefited me a great deal.
I. Currently, many training patterns and limitation of professional sports teams are causing wasted resources, and injuries in many athletes.
Scientific training is essential for an athlete. Currently, we need more specialized physical rehabilitation specialists to get into the training system to make an impact on the whole environment. Even though we are facing difficulties, as long as there are people trying, things will get better. I am confident that under the leadership of Dr. Chen, more and more people will join in this transformation process.
II. What is physical rehabilitation and what are its roles?
As the name suggests, it refers to the body, function, health, and recovery. Right now, the training pattern for many athletes, when they are injured, is to go see their doctors. It creates a problem here: the relationship between coaches and doctors is not clear, and this is where physical rehabilitation needs to step in.
III. Physical rehabilitation training must be combined with specific sports to be carried out.
We need to:
1. Have a full understanding of the structure of the human body.
2. Understand the function of human movement on the basis of the anatomical structure of the human body.
3. Further understand the performance and needs of physical movement function during physical training on the basis of fundamental motion function.
4. Be able to master the principles, assessment and diagnosis of sports illness.
5. Develop a prescription of sports rehabilitation according to particular circumstances, implement this, and get feedback.
IV. Learn to criticize and inherit, use practice to test, so that “knowledge and action go hand in hand.”
Our discussions of full squats vs. partial squats proved that learning does not mean to absorb totally; we need to think and put our thought to the test.
V. Training is an environmental adaptation (which includes the environments inside of body, in training, in competition, and in psychology).
Without strength, there is no training; without recovery, there is no improvement.
VI. We need to have a good learning attitude
Dedication, eagerness to learn, truth-seeking, innovation, efficiency, attention to detail, results, no excuses sought, honesty, caring, modesty, discipline, teamwork, respect, enthusiasm, initiative, leadership, personal practice and so on, these outstanding qualities should be our pursuit in life. People of different ages and experience have different interpretations for them. An elementary school student might use these words in his compositions, but a person with a certain experience might tell you that this is the secret to his success – it is hard to achieve, but we must try because this is the right direction.
